On the way completing Asia three new maps were added:
– Mongolia
– China-West
– Kasakhstan
Rendering of these maps became possible with the new Rendermachine.
The apperence of Desert-areas now is improved in lower zoom levels, trunks and primary highways now appear at lower zoom levels.
The new rendemachine is up and running, all problems that occured during the upgrade are identified and solved.
So most of the European maps are updated, the renderthemes now render the names of big citys more reliable so the overview in low zoom-levels is improved. These themes are available for download and will be included in the map-zips with the next update.
I’m looking forward to offer a new, more complete, mapset for Canada in the oncomming weeks and an update of whole America – both north and south.
More than 50% of the costs of the new rendermachine were covered by – YOU – so I want to say thanks, and please support this project further on to keep it up.

What will be done the new machine:
– Germany and France is one planned as a complete map, the Germany map most lilely as a combined cycle/hike.
– USA including Alaska / Canada with more provinces / Africa / Asia Updates
– As a vision: Russia, China, etc. ..

The maps of Japan are finally available, still without landuse=wood cause of the huge multipolygons Japanese mappers are prefering.
Once the new Rendermachine is in operation this issue will be – hopefully – solved too.
The maps are loading fast an reliable, and contain all features you know from the other maps of OpenStreetMap / OpenAndroMaps.

These Themes utilize the additional features built into the special Locus/Mapsforge implementation like beautiful an most professional road/way labels while ensuring compatibility with openandromaps.

The same technics I used to fix the map of the Netherlands now made it possible to release a combined cycle/hike map for Great Britain, enjoy !

This project have now reached a level where it would be possible to render and update even big maps at a automatic, scedulled base. Unfortunatelly my current equipment is not suitable for this – my Thinkpad T410 (the Laptop I earn my living with) is running constantly wit a CPU-temperature of 75-80°C that lead to a destroyed mainboard last year.
The render time on this machine for the “ALPS” is between 4-5 days – thats too much by far for any serious update strategy.
This leads to the fact that a new, powerfull dedicated rendermachine is needed to raise this project to a reliable, professional level the user can count on.
If you want to support openandromaps please take a look at my wishlist. For bigger donations it’s – of couse – possible to set a banner in sidebar of this website. Currently this website is viewed by 8000 unique visitors per month and constantly growing.
I’m aware that this is a big wishlist. However, the other way to collect money would be to fill every corner of this site by adds – a way I dont want an I dont will go….
