I know, but there were workarounds posted in this thread. A really simple one is this:

This installs no real app, but just a link to the system app that has access to every folder.

Although the system files app has access to every folder, it does not necessarily allow you to move files in or out of them. (This appears to depend on the manufacturer and/or the version of Android. I lost that ability in an OTA upgrade.) The problem appears to be that to copy or move files requires a second instance of the app. However if the second folder is opened in a split window in that app, it can be done.

On the Pixel 6a (Android 14 June 2024 security updates) I can move files out of the data folder, but it is not allowing me to move something into the data folder. As soon as I select “copy to” or “move to” on any file, the data folder is not available anymore.

Thanks everyone! I have been doing more research on this and it appears that @tobias is correct. Certain versions of the internal Android “Files” app can still have access to the now off-limits folders so the first thing to try is the Marc files app to gain access to these folders. If it works I believe some of the other file managers use this interface for their access.

I have also read that if this doesn’t work that it may be possible to uninstall updates to the Files app on your phone to revert to a version that restores access. It also appears that this loophole is being progressively closed with newer updates. Your results will be very dependent on your particular phone, carrier, and Android version.
