Mapsforge maps advance to version 5.

That provides support for “variable tag values” via wildcards.
i.e. store tag values in maps without needing to specify multiple value rules in tag-mapping.

    – Map writer can create map files v3, v4 and v5
    – Mapsforge + VTM readers are compatible with all map file versions

Thanks to community work and more info is in Mapsforge forum announcement.

    In screenshot:
Created Moscow map from OpenStreetMap data, with “tag-values=true” to store also building 3D tags.
And VTM renders the map with all building details.

Wow, that’s great news… many new possibilities, but as always will take some time until major apps support it. Thanks!

If you have some time for map creation tests and check if all work ok!

e.g. can see in latest tag-mapping the building heights / levels declarations for reference.

    today i have modified mytourbook(mt) a bit.
    http://mytourbook.sourceforge.net/mytourbook/
mt was already able to display vtm maps, so it was not to complicate to add mapsforge.
maybe one of the next version of mt will support it.

if i want to show perfect outdoormaps i use oam,
if i wand display nice 3D maps i have to use the maps from
    http://download.mapsforge.org/maps/v5/

if you create someday some testmaps v5, i am interested…

    Hi Christian,

    Thomas

    oops wrong language,
    in english:
i saw on the ftp server that christian is starting to build V5 maps.

question was, if christian is planing to integrate S3DB information in the maps.
S3DB is one of the new features of V5 maps.

    integrate S3DB information

I’m working on these maps since 2 Months.

The changes in the V5 maps are essential.
In V3 and V4 the mtb/hike/cycle routes are written back (the tags are inherited from Relations) to the existing “highways” – this means the route with the highest priority referenced to a highway is rendered and all other routes are skipped.
In V5 ALL Routes are= the tags, are inherited from Relations, creating new ways for each Relation.
These ways are “connected” to the underlaying “highway”s by a “ul_highway” tag.

MTB routes are now seperated to local/regional/national/international routes.

DONT USE THE NEW MAPS IN REAL WORLD, these maps have to be tested.
The Themes HAVE to be modified.
All scripts for preprozessing have been writen new from scratch.
Even PERL itself had to be patched to allow real huge hashes/arrays bigger than 1,8GB RAM
    So take care…

    Best regards
    Christian

BTW: There will be no support for 3D, thats a great feature if someone needs ist but IMO not for outdoor maps.

    Thanks for the detailed explanation.
sounds like many work on map creation side.

I am excited about and looking forward to see the new opportunities.

    >no support for 3D
    Schade 😉

    Best wishes,

We provide the needed S3DB tags in Mapsforge tag-mapping.

And can find complete v5 maps with all S3DB tags in Mapsforge and Kurviger servers.
