Hello, I was wondering if you could possibly add the “motorcycle=yes” tag to highway=path parent tag, similar to how bicycle=bic_yes|bic_permissive|bic_designated currently functions.

In the US (mostly in the western US), we have some paths that explicitly allow motorcycles. For instance, see here:

Rainbow Trail has tag “motorcycle=yes”. It would be nice to be able to add this tag to a theme for us adventure motorcyclists.

There’s a problem with mapsforge maps that only 15 tags can be stored per item. When more are stored it will result in white tiles. So with all hiking and cycling route and access tags we’ve already scratched that limit.
So adding more tags for other uses makes no sense at the moment.

If I understand you correctly, each way (path) can use 15 tags? For example:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/282976049 has 9 tags, but really only 3 are important, bicycle=*, name=*, highway=*, (& maybe horse=*)
For this one:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/373035046#map=15/38.4686/-105.9946
there are also 9 similar tags, with the addition of motorcycle=yes.

Perhaps you’re saying that you have to use the same 15 keys for all ways? If so what are they?

Any tag that is included in tag-mapping:

Not only the tags on a way as in your example, but also those of a relation that contains the way. E.g. sac_scale, trail_visibility, surface, mtb:scale, mtb:scale:uphill, access tags, hiking and cycling routes, waymarks, name, ref, highway etc. We already removed tags that were included before because we ran into the limit. One way with 15+ is enough to render the map useless. So we have to be strict to not have this again, especially with tags for other uses.
