After some discussions in this thread in the German part some surface values were suggested to change within the OAM combinations. Here is the last version for you to comment, also colors in Elevate are given.

    White:
    ‘paved’
    ‘asphalt’ equivalent-values=’concrete’
    White with single dots:
    ‘smooth_paved’ equivalent-values=’concrete,concrete:plates,concrete:lanes,paving_stones,paving_stones:30,
    paving_stones:20,cobblestone:flattened,sett,bricks,cement,metal,wood’
    White with dual dots:
    ‘rough_paved’ equivalent-values=’cobblestone,stone,grass_paver,cobblestone:flattened,sett’
    Brown:
    ‘compacted’ equivalent-values=’fine_gravel’
    ‘unpaved’
    White with single dots:
    ‘gravel’ equivalent-values=’pebblestone,woodchips’
    Brown with dual dots:
    ‘raw’ equivalent-values=’ground,dirt,grass,sand,wood,earth,mud,clay,salt,woodchips’
    ‘winter’ equivalent-values=’ice,snow’

All changes marked by italics or strike-through.

    Reasons:
    – concrete grouped with asphalt as there is no difference in real life
    – cobblestone:flattened and sett move to rough_paved, as the english Wiki says in contrast to the German one: “”Cobblestone” is used in the colloquial meaning here, and therefore includes the type of stones that would more precisely be called “setts””. And it makes sense to move all those values to rough paved, as they are all rougher than concrete paving stones.
    – wood is no raw underground, it’s even paved, and also in this category in the Wiki, I see it similar to metal
    – woodchips is also not raw but an artificial surface, but a bit rough like gravel

    Hi,

Well I still think bare_rock/bedrock or scree areas are not represented here but it’s just me 😀

    Best regards,

It would be no problem to add those if they were probably defined/discussed on OpenStreetMap sites, but I haven’t found anything, so the problems I described in the other thread are still there.

    Hi,

Yeah, it’s unfortunate that mappers haven’t picked up some more precise surface values for these areas despite the OSM wiki quote about using rock also instead of just ground. Maybe I should make a surface=rock OSM wiki page to popularise it 😀

Anyways, thanks for the modifications and the answers to the questions, and as you probably say, frohe Weihnachten und ein gutes neues Jahr for you both!

    Best regards,
    IG
