I’d like to be able to search for a name on the map. Is there an app which allows me to do that?
The apps I tried all use some kind of ‘location service’ (mostly Google’s). But for this I need an Internet connection, which is often not available. And even where an Internet connection is available many names on the maps from this website are not found by these services; I suppose because they are not ‘official’ names but were added by the volunteers of ‘Open Streetmaps’. But for my use, these are among the most helpful location names. It is infuriating to get a ‘not found’ message and then finding afterwards the name is on the map before me.
Map files contain long lists of location names – is there no app that allows searching these lists?

Mapsforge maps, the format which OAM uses, can’t be searched. You have to use additional means, e.g. the POI files that are coming with the maps, if your app supports it, or other tools that use OSM data.

PS: the OAM POIs do not include street names, only other POI.
The Locus 4 download sets include those POIs, plus the streets – searchable.
