    Good afternoon,
not being an it expert but user: I use the andromaps on my Bike computer, the Hammerhead Karoo2. Also installed the map render theme from elevate and the elevate_res map for icons and so.
But, i can’t choose for MTB/Cycling/Hiking options in the Hammerhead. Is there a possibility tyo combine those in 1 XML file? i think i miss features now, or some things show in a zoomlevel that is not practical for me??

    Glad to hear from you?

I can’t help with your question, but maybe you can help me? Are you using the Karoo app? I installed Locus, but I can’t select the theme?

    Hi @bikenfool and @JPGreenstreet,
i heard from you now the fist time about that Hammerhead Karoo 2. Although the price seems a bit high to me, i find it interesting.
From what i understand, it is based on Android 8, comes with it’s own “Karoo Apps”. I assume the “Karoo App” is simply not able to handle these Mapsforge v4 Maps& Themes?
And when you install another app, for which you have the *.apk”, you use platform-tools/adb. Is that correct?

@matthias correct. You are able to sideload with apkpure for example. People use spotify, zwift, others osmand. I use the andromaps because there is more detail, surely for MTB and surface of roads.

I use adb on a linux computer to load the app to Karoo. The app that comes with Karoo lacks many feature that I want (and has many features that I don’t need). I’ve been using Locus & openandromaps for years so I thought I’d try that. I’ll have to try some different apps.
They use opencyclemaps for there native app maps. I don’t know if that’s the same format as openandromaps.

    @bikenfool, if i had a Karoo2, I would try OruxMaps 7.4.24 together with OpenAndroMaps

If an app doesn’t support mapsforge mapstyle menus, there are two possibilities without using a different app:

    – Use Elevate 2, there are separate files for each mapstyle; but this has been deprecated 3 years ago and might not work well with current maps.

    – Change the default values in the stylemenu section at the beginning of the xml file with a text editor; this needs some understanding of xml, but this is relatively simple:
<stylemenu id="elv-menu" defaultvalue="elv-hiking" defaultlang="en"> to a different value like elv-mtb, elv-city or elv-cycling; for the options change the layer tags, switch them on/off with enabled=”true”/”false”, (h/c/b/m stands for hiking, city, bicycle, mtb). This only works if the app respects the default values; there are apps which don’t an all mapstyles and option are enabled, rendering the theme pretty useless.

Goodmorning. installed the 5.0 maps. Installed the new rendertheme also, tried Locus and the other one. My bike computer seems not to accept the new renderstyle suddenly…. Goes back to the home screen when trying to start a ride and/or route.what could be the reason for that? The “old” xml does work with the new maps but i guess i miss the improvements on MTB routes and so on….

Does your bike computer allow some VIEWING (before starting a ride)? And would the viewing also fail?

@MBE57 yes it does allow viewing and that also fails. There is a ride screen also with a summary of ridden rides, ( also a view on the route ) that also fails…
I could share the xml that does work to see where it goed wrong? in the bike computer i cannot choose for MTB/Race or hike, so would like everything to be seen in one XML L:-)
    Cheers, john

Did you compare the working and failing XMLs ? Notepad++ is a free, yet professional tool and there is a compare plugin.

    The working XML is
Mapsforge map style for OpenAndroMaps optimized for MTB
