ParticipantHi,
does OpenAdroMaps renders valleys (natural:valley) mapped as ways (not nodes), and, if yes, how would them appear in Elevate theme?
Thanks

TobiasKeymasterThe name is rendered, if available; in lower zoom horizontal, in higher zooms along the way.

ParticipantHello,
I’m a OSM mapper and use Locus Map 4.31.3 with OAM maps when I’m hiking.I created a few natural=valley objects in OSM but it seems they all are not rendered by Elevate.
I do not understand why as they seems identical to other objects with same tag which, instead, are rendered correctly. The name of my objects are nor rendered both on low and high zoom, what’s my mistake ?
as a reference, have a look at these two objects,

TobiasKeymasterHi Bruno,
they are rendered with current Elevate and Maps, see attached screenshots. Make sure that you have installed maps + theme correctly and have selected the theme.
Best regards,

ParticipantHello Tobias thanks for replying,
interesting but I don’t see them on my phone. The OAM map I use is “Italy-South Oam” which looks different from your screenshots. Which maps did You test with?
Maybe We use some different settings ? See a screenshot from Locus.I installed again elevate 5.6 rendertheme on Locus Map and selected the Hiking mapstyle and still I don’t see

TobiasKeymasterIt’s also Italy South. Maybe you deactivated the 7th option of Elevate, “landscape features”?

ParticipantNo, “landscape features” is activated and consider that I can see other valleys mapped apparently in the same way.
I tried to clean the map caches but no luck.I did a test installing Locus map on another phone and my valleys gets rendered correctly,
I suspect it is a problem of my phone, or some settings but is really strange.By the way, on the first phone I have the same problem with Oruxmaps, loading the same map /elevate.

JohnPercyParticipantThere’s a couple of possibilities that come to mind. It could be a text size issue – have you altered text magnifications at all? Sometimes texts clash and don’t get shown. Alternatively, the map file itself could be corrupted. You could try downloading it again if you haven’t already. Both of those are problems I’ve encountered.

TobiasKeymasterMaybe you are using an older map on one phone, and a newer one on the other?
Your edits are 2-4 months old, and the maps are usually updated monthly with slightly older OSM extracts. So to be sure use the news OpenAndroMap from 2/12/25 (OSM extract 30/11/25).
Or maybe you downloaded a new map to a different folder on your phone, and the app is using an old map in its default folder.

ParticipantHello, sorry for this delay,
Your speculations makes sense but nothing of them is true. I have the same map version on both phones and I always update the map when a new one is available (the last test was on the Nov. map, I will download December right now). Also the text magnifications are at default (I didn’t touch this setting on both phones).
I have the same map version (November ) also on Locus and Orux,
This is still a mystery, I will update this thread if I discover something

ParticipantA quick update: I can see now the valley labels on Locus Map. What I did is to select another Map theme (I selected, in sequence, a couple of internal themes) and then go back to Elevate.
Suddenly all the missing labels appeared.I still have the problem with Orux even though I tried to do the same procedure.
I think it’s not a malfunction of the software/theme but something related to this specific phone model. (Samsung M31s)
thanks for the attention

TobiasKeymasterSeems like a cache issue. In OruxMaps, try: Settings > Maps > Reset raster cache

ParticipantHello, if it is a cache problem, it is best to put any other map in the viewfinder, in settings > Maps > delete vector cache, press 2 or 3 times. Close the app without opening the viewfinder. Then in android it will go to the storage management of the app and clear the cache memory also in android of OruxMaps. Deleting from the app there are always residues. Greetings.
