    The Voluntary theme has been updated (see below). The new version for Locus is also available through the Locus Store in the Locus Maps app.

    The main enhancements are:
    – Names for archipelagos, islands and islets in latest maps from OpenAndroMaps (from 1 Oct 2017)
    – Option to show “difficult” paths in LoMaps and maps from OpenAndroMaps
    – Minor but important changes in the order of rendering of one-way streets, route overlays, railways, aeroways, ferries and bridges; white underlay for paths on bridges; revised border rendering.

    Thanks. Do you know if this works with Orux 7.2.5? If not, what version of Orux should I download?

    I’ve just tested it and Voluntary Cruiser works fine with Orux 7.2.5 from the web site.

    Multilingual (Mapsforge v4) maps from OpenAndroMaps can now be displayed in Locus Maps with the included Voluntary Mapsforge theme, which is only offered as an option when a Mapsforge v4 map has been selected. Voluntary Mapsforge is as similar to Voluntary UK as possible.
    Other changes:
    – Voluntary Cruiser has been renamed to Voluntary as it works with Oruxmaps just as well as Cruiser!
    – Addition of switchable tracks in City and Roads styles
    – “Blue” icons darkened to improve visibility
    – Buildings under construction shown in latest OAMmaps
    – Cable cars now hang downwards in Locus Voluntary Mapsforge theme and Cruiser/Orux version
    – Velocity colours revised (track/residential/runway/military etc) (Locus only)
    – Voluntary UK national/international cycle routes set to red labels (as UK signage) (Locus only)
    – Rendering order and style of roads under construction changed
    – Alignment of passes; abandoned and active mine and military bunker now shown on OAMaps.
    – Peaks appear at zoom levels according to their local prominence on OAMaps.
    – Bridges align for cycle tracks on OAMaps.
    – Race track bridges, tunnels shown.
    – Paths etc slimmed slightly

    Just so that you know that there are people out here who appreciate your work – thanks. The latest renderings are very practical, clear and useful.

    Cleared up a few bugs (spurious stations on light rail tracks, rail station symbols appearing multiple times).
    Simplified underground waterways by not showing underground pipelines, streams, drains and ditches but only rivers and canals in tunnels.
    Improved depiction of tunnels of all sorts.
    Updated online key.

    Thanks for the Voluntary Style/Rendertheme. It’s good to see colours similar to OS and road numbers.
    FYI, I was able to install it (and the key) directly from those links into the iOS app called Cartograph Maps 2 on my iPhone 8 where it’s working fine on Openandromaps. (Note: there is a free “Lite” version of that app)
    Kind regards, Pat

    The Voluntary theme (plus the similar but simpler Velocity theme) have been updated and are available here for download.
    The most significant changes are revisions to dashed lines for better compatibility with devices with later Android versions, improvements with road numbers and names, plus importantly the incorporation of Mapsforge v4 (multilingual) versions of both Voluntary and Velocity.
    Plus, of course, numerous other small tweaks and improvements.

    As before there is one version for Locus and one for other apps.

    Interesting, what’s the issue here?

    You probably mean theme support for the standard mapsforge engine in Locus (which is used for V4+ maps only), as themes are not multilingual ;-).
    At least the Locus reference should be there, as for all other apps there is no connection between map and theme version.

    This isn’t that easy to explain. You can (for example) get alternating black and white dashes by writing:

    <line stroke="#000000" stroke-dasharray="16,3" stroke-width="0.2" stroke-linecap="butt" />
    <line stroke="#FFFFFF" stroke-dasharray="0,16,3,0" stroke-width="0.2" stroke-linecap="butt" />

    Previously I had alternating coloured dots by writing something like:

    <line stroke="#FF0000" stroke-dasharray="0.1,5.9" stroke-width="2"/>
    <line stroke="#00FF00" stroke-dasharray="0,3,0.1,2.9,0" stroke-width="2"/>

    which used the default rounded end to give a blob centred on 0 and another of a different colour centred on 3.
    This worked fine on my old phone. With the rendering on my new phone, the second line gave a blob centred on 0 as well as one centred on 3. In other words the zero length dash had rounded ends as well as the one of length 0.1. This may be a Locus-specific problem but I had to get rid of this bit of cleverness.

    .

    You are of course correct. What I actually had in mind in writing this was Christian’s announcement that this site is changing over to Mapsforge v4 multilingual maps and that these themes are ready for that.
    To unpack further, the Locus package now includes versions of Voluntary and Velocity themes for LoMaps and Mapsforge v3 and v4 maps from this site. The package for other apps includes the Velocity theme for the first time and works on both Mapsforge v3 and v4 maps ,
    (However, these themes are in fact multilingual, as indeed are Elevate and Elements,)

    So if I get this right – without stroke-linecap you get a round stroke at a “0”? In which engine – Locus-fork only or also standard mapsforge?

    Without stroke-linecap I now get a round end on the zero-length dash at “0” in both the Locus fork and the standard Mapsforge engine in Locus, Orux, and Cruiser for Android. My current phone is a Moto G6 Plus, Android 8.0.0. On my previous phone, a Moto G2, a zero length dash did not “grow” round ends.

    Apologies for such a quick update but I’ve realised that many of the wilderness huts (bothies) in Scotland are mapped as both “wilderness huts” and “basic_hut” shelters. I’ve now modified the two Voluntary themes to prioritise showing (a) if the hut is private (b) if it is a basic shelter (for example, no fire) (c) if it is a true wilderness hut. I think this conveys the best information and hope it works elsewhere. This update changes only wilderness huts and if you are not interested in them you can skip this update.
