Hello
I have the Elevate and Element themes Version 3.1.0 SVG downloaded 15Oct15 into Locus Map Free Version 3.13.1
1 Residential and City Areas
Elevate/City (with ‚car‘ ticked)
In both residential and city areas I note that generally most street names do not appear until Zoom 18 or 19 even when there is plenty of space for the names In some cases at Zoom 17 one or two small very unimportant streets are named but the main tertiary through street is not named. And at Zoom 18 many small streets are named but not all of the tertiary streets Could you please explain why this happens and the background reasons. It would be very helpful if the street names were displayed at lower zooms when there is space. Elements theme action is the same
2 Rural/Backcountry Areas
Elements/Cycling (with ‚car‘ ticked)
Zoom15 may show one or two street names near cycle trail entry/exit points but not all names are displayed even when there is plenty of space These street names appear at Zoom 17 and 18I’m certain that it must be very hard to give a good display at all zoom levels when the density of streets changes from urban to residential to rural but I would appreciate your comment
Thanks for great maps and themes
Dezember 2, 2015 um 08:21 Uhr #7302TobiasAdministratorHello,
this is not a limit of Elevate or the maps. With Elevate street names are limited to zoom 14/15, with Elements they are shown as soon as possible.
The big limit is the map engine. For showing street names a straight segment of the street (not the whole street) has to be as long as the street name. If the street name is longer, it is not shown. The only thing we can do is make the font size smaller, which is already very small for zoom levels 14 to 16. But you can experiment with the appropriate setting in Locus.
Best regards,

I note that some smartphone apps (eg Maps and Mapfactor Navigator Free) bend the street names where needed to follow the road curves but of course these do not use OAM files
I guess you are referring to map viewing apps that can use OAM .map files eg Locus Map and Oruxmaps? Are you aware of any future proposal to bend the labels to suit the shape of the road?Dezember 3, 2015 um 07:53 Uhr #7316EmuxTeilnehmerDezember 3, 2015 um 08:23 Uhr #7319TobiasAdministratorAre you aware of any future proposal to bend the labels to suit the shape of the road?
Here’s the open issue where this limitation is discussed:
