TeilnehmerHello, I am an happy user of Alps huge map with Oruxmaps, but I would like to use just a part of it, eliminating for example the east part of Austria that I don’t really need. Is it possible? How to do it?

VerwalterHi Pierr,
Unfortunately the answer is simple: Currently it’s not possible to resize/cut a Mapsforge map, sorry.
Best regards

Teilnehmerhi,
is it possible to get the files you are using to create the map files? i did not see any link to some download for the map creation stuff itself – or is it closed source?
cause are my attempts to generate rectangular map files for automated download (the map file url can be deduced from the lat/lon directly like with raster tiles). i like your tag mapping better than the original mapsforge one and wouln’t like to reinvent the weel.
on top you add contour lines which is an amazing feature which i would like to do as well.

VerwalterHi Michael,
The contourlines are created with Phyghtmap:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Phyghtmap
This is really simple.Create the contour lines with phyghtmap and merge the resulting file and the OSM file with osmosis.
Start mapwriter, enjoy the map.The rest:
Sea/Land, Poly_labels, area calculation of MPs, inheriting attributes from relations to ways, boarderlines, smoothen contourlines, aso… is a real complicated process of scripts creating other scripts, creating…..
There is no simple cookbook for this, and there are a lot of gaps in the toolchain to fill with own Perl/Phyton scripts, you need different implementations/versions of Python for different tasks, assign different tagmappings to different countrys, aso..Even the basic setup of tools differs between Linux/WindowsXP/Win7 <> 32bit/64 bit
So, as I said, there is no easy way to create close to perfect MapsForge maps.Best regards, Chrstian

TeilnehmerHi Chrstian,
thanks for the answer, will check the contour stuff as soon as i find the time. about the other stuff: i already use the mapsforge-mapcreator and added an own process to create rectangular maps. i just wonder if i can use stuff you already implemented here.
so do i understand your answer correctly that the stuff you use to create the files is closed source and will not be revealed?

VerwalterHi Michael,
In Short: You are right, the process is so complex that I don’t want to release it. Its working with my equipment and far away from even an „Alpha“ state.
Best regards, Christian
