So, if there were this compatibility, app developers would just use the new lib and not wonder and care about the version on the devices of their users …Mapsforge 0.29.0 can read POI in both v3 and v4 formats.

Thats the point.
Once Ouxmaps uses V0.29 for a whilke I will switch to POI_V4It doesnt make sense to use a even vast improved POI-Version when no one can make use of it.

You can create POI v4 in a different folder with poi-writer 0.30.0
while keeping the old POI.https://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetmap/openandromaps/pois/mapsforge_v4/
This is how we already do it on the Mapsforge server.
Applications that are updated regularly already use POI v4, e.g. RouteConverter.
There is no point in holding all applications back waiting for just one application.

This would cause confusion – even we, the nerds, have to look carefully whixh files are kompatible with which apps.
The usual user (working hard most of the time) wants to have working solutions for their hikes, rides, tours in their rare free time
No more no less.
The worst thing is to end on the field with incompatible things out of the versions jungle.Don’t get me wrong EMUX – I’m a fan of you and your genious mapsforg lib but I want to keep is as simple as possible for the enduser and to archieve a good balance between performance+features and easy handling on the other hand.

To be sure, are you using poi-writer 0.30.0 ?
As it contains even more improvements and creates the updated extremely fast POI v4.
