I have looked everywhere, but I cannot find any documentation or samples on how to create Mapsforge map tiles that uses OSM db and poi files with the corresponding map file. The tiles will be used as overlays on top of an Android map view. The base OSM map file works fine, but not the db file.

I can’t find any information actually on the relationship between map, db, and poi files. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi. The .db and .poi files are not Tiles. They are files that contain POIs (point of interest) to use with maps.
It depends on which application you are using the maps and POI’s. If you are using OruxMaps just put the .map and .poi files in the oruxmaps/mapfiles folder. Then set the correct path to the .poi file. This is: Global Setting- Maps – MapsForge Maps Settings – POI Database offline by default. You can also check the box „Search POI’s, Push Map“, With this function you can see the information associated with the POI every time you touch one on the screen.
If I’m not wrong, the .db file contains the POIs for the LocusMap App, and this file is not functional in OruxMaps.

    Thanks.

I know they aren’t tiles. I’m trying to generate map tiles using Mapsforge software to overlay on top of an Android map view. I’m not using any other app like OruxMap… I’m using an app I’ve developed. I’m just trying to find some documentation on what the db and poi files are used for and how to use them with Mapsforge. I also haven’t found any information on the Mapsforge site.

I’ve noticed that c:geo will render different map tiles when the db file is removed so it appears the file is used for something more than just points of interest.

Maybe you should ask the c:geo developers. It might be that they add the POIs of the db file as icons to the map if it’s available, Locus does something similar. But that would be app specific, and would not be the map, strictly speaking.
