Hi everyone,

Why the OpenAndroMaps POI databases have the same category multiple times?

For example, in the Andorra_oam.osm.poi, the „Drinking water“ exists 5 times in the poi_categories table.

Well, its not exact the same category.

There are trailing blanks in the end of the category name.
Why?
Well, Drinking Water is for Hikers,Cyclists, = more than one MainCat-Users.
So in ORUX the drinkingwater appears in many different layers/main_cats. This is done cause the different number of trailing blanks make 5 different cats out of one = you have the drinking_water in all layers where these should appear.

A trick, not my most brilliant 🙂 , but it works

Can you mention more details?
I am not sure I understand clearly the need or use for it. 🙂

If we want to parse the poi files and show the available categories,
now it is confusing as users see the same category multiple times.
