W10/11 now requires requires supplemental character sets to be loaded for some Far Eastern languages. Search the Microsoft Windows help for directions.

In Windows itself, notepad++, etc. etc. all is fine.
MOBAC.jar using the Mapsforge library and Maperitive.exe produce those boxes.

It could be a problem with the Java fonts on Windows.

It works fine with Cruiser on Linux, see the screenshot.

Try a different Java, for example: https://adoptium.net

Personally I would still check that you have the requisite full install of windows supplemental fonts. See https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/windows-missing-fonts?pivots=windows-11
If that doesn’t solve the problem then it seems the problem lies in the Java.
