AdministratorHello,
I updated the Elevate themes today.
The biggest news: there are now special versions for the new OruxMaps 6.0 version, which was published yesterday.
As it renders many details in different sizes because of the used mapsforge 0.4 version, the new OruxMaps themes are optimized for that. Also with OruxMaps 6.0 the themes (and maps) can now easily installed, just use your Android browser and press on „Install“.All changes:
2.3.0 18/11/14
– added themes optimized for OruxMaps 6
– optimized rendering for mapsforge 0.4+
– moved large patterns to lower zoom levels
– changed motorway_junction, peak rendering zoom 13 and lower, track casings
– added map borderBest regards,

TeilnehmerDear Tobias/ Christian,
thanks a lot for your effort, now it is very easy to install the themes and the maps!
One question, do you know if the OAM maps are ready for rendertheme V4 (Mapforge 0.5)?
As I see you’ve wrote that the theme is ready vor mapforge 0.4+, so also for 0.5?Thanks a lot
Good eveningNovember 18, 2014 um 22:13 Uhr #2850Tobias
AdministratorHi Giogio,
The maps are ready – the format hasn’t changed. It depends on the viewer if you can use rendertheme V4, and at the moment Oruxmaps doesn’t support it as it uses mapsforge 0.4. But if you use Cruiser or Atlas, you can use all 0.5 features with the normal Openandromaps.
I wrote optimized for 0.4+ as some rendering had changed in comparison to 0.3, but 0.4 and 0.5 is the same.

TeilnehmerThank you Tobias for explaining.
I thought this, because if you go in atlas -> mapinfo you can see „created with mapsforge writer 0.3.0“ with new alps map of 10/11/2014I saw a little problem (for me, don’t know if it’s a real problem 😉 ) with new theme 2.3.0
I cannot see any more the wheater shelter name, in the previous version of Elevate hiking 2.2.4 I can see them.
I’ve already tried to adjust the text size without success (I went in orux under global settings->maps->Mapsforge settings, and I’ve tried to modify text dimension, symbol scale and scale)
Maybe it’s a problem of my device (xperia go)?
The area taken by my screenshot is https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/1712981728#map=17/46.04093/9.92340Thanks again

AdministratorHi Giogio,
thanks for the feedback. I can’t reproduce the problem, but I don’t have a device with 160dpi as your Xperia Go. I tested and developed Elevate (standard size) 2.3.0 on a 240dpi device.
The problem here lies with OruxMaps 6.0 and 160dpi:
As some things are scaled by dpi automatically with mapsforge 0.4, it seems that the dy-factor which determines the distance between icon and name is also scaled for 240dpi (which I tested and worked) but not for your 160dpi – as mapsforge assumes 160dpi as default. So the solution would be to make all dy larger, but I don’t know if that still looks acceptable on 240 dpi.Edit: could you try the attached version if it works for you?
Best regards,

TeilnehmerThank you Tobias!
Yes the updated version is working for 160dpi device!
But if this is not looks good for other device, I’ll stay with the older elevate version… 🙂Thanks again and have a nice day

TeilnehmerHi, I’m Emux one of the maintainers of Mapsforge
(and author of Cruiser / Atlas).I recommend to use the new ‚position‘ tag for symbol labels positioning, instead of ‚dy‘.
That has many more available locations (at all 8 sides) and we process it accordingly to be side by side with the symbol at any dpi.‚dy‘ is the only available for circles, it takes a number as value that is dependent on the dpi and can be hidden because of the collision detection.

As soon as OruxMaps will use this version I will try to implement lots of the improvements you added in the last months, but not every developer is as fast to use the newest mapsforge version as you are. And OruxMaps is still the app I’m personally using for hiking.

Maybe you haven’t chosen the theme?
– In OruxMaps use „Menu“, „Tweaks“, „Mapsforge style“ to choose the theme (Elevate.xml or other variation)
– In Locus use „Menu“, „Settings“, „Map – advanced“, touch on „Theme of the maps“ below „Vector maps“; if necessary „Show more“ below „Internal themes“ and touch the name of the theme, e.g. „Elevate“Developer of Elevate mapstyle

TeilnehmerHello folks!!
I just registered and I want to do my compliments to Tobias for the great software. Anyway I have a little question: is not clear for me how to select the different xml themes in my folder, for example how can I to choose between elevate_hiking.xml and elegant_city.xml ?Februar 22, 2015 um 10:14 Uhr #4093Tobias

Have a look at https://www.openandromaps.org/wp-content/users/tobias/installation.txt:
– In OruxMaps (not Beta!) use „Menu“, „Tweaks“, „Mapsforge style“ to choose the theme (Elevate.xml or other variation)
– In Locus use „Menu“, „Settings“, „Map – advanced“, touch on „Theme of the maps“ below „Vector maps“; if necessary „Show more“ below „Internal themes“ and touch the name of the theme, e.g. „Elevate“

TeilnehmerHello Tobias,
thanks for your answer. Obviously I read your instructions, but I have an oruxmap italian installation, and I don’t find the ‚Tweaks‘ menu… Anyway I found the ‚Mapsforge style‘ choice (under the Map menu.). But in this menu I see all my xml variants, but I cannot choice a specific one….März 2, 2015 um 08:51 Uhr #4137Tobias
AdministratorHi,
that’s the wrong option, with this you only choose the mapsforge style path, not the theme.
Either change the language of OruxMaps to english (application -> select language, whatever this is in Italian) or try menu – 4th option from the top – 4th option from the top again.
Or try the official OruxMaps forum:
http://www.oruxmaps.com/foro/
