ParticipantHello
I’m a new user of OpenAndroMaps with Orux.
I am wondering why zoom level don’t correspond between OAM and map created with MOBAC. Is it a maps or Orux concern ?
I wonder if there is a way to tell Orux to use OAM for certains zoom level only ? I’d like to use Satellite image maps for closer zoom and OAM for other zoom levels. Presently if a setup Orux to change maps automaticaly when zooming in and out, Orux find OAM suitable for all zooms.
Sorry for my poor english and big thanks for OpenAndroMaps !February 12, 2018 at 21:57 #22308Tobias
KeymasterHello
I’m a new user of OpenAndroMaps with Orux.
I am wondering why zoom level don’t correspond between OAM and map created with MOBAC. Is it a maps or Orux concern ?It’s a map format problem. Maps with mobac are usually made of web maps which are scaled for PC screen usage. Those maps have 256px tile size. This corresponds to 160ppi handheld devices, which were the first smartphone generation (3.5″ displays with 480×320 resolution). Now with 480ppi and higher, those PC screen sized maps are unreadable because all symbols and text are tiny.
For pixel maps like sat images, only the not very elegant digital zoom helps here. With vector maps, you can increase the size of symbols, texts, lines and so on, and, to fit everything else, also tile size, as the tiles would get really crowded with high ppis.
So OruxMaps scales OAM like the mapsforge format is intended: the maps are meant to be scaled to screen density of the device, so that a map at 160ppi looks exactly the same as with 480ppi. But with 768px vector tiles the 256px raster tiles don’t correspond anymore – the only downside. This could be fixed if OruxMaps would add an option like “scale only raster tiles only by 300%” (or other value).I wonder if there is a way to tell Orux to use OAM for certains zoom level only ? I’d like to use Satellite image maps for closer zoom and OAM for other zoom levels. Presently if a setup Orux to change maps automaticaly when zooming in and out, Orux find OAM suitable for all zooms.
I don’t think there’s an option like this, best bet would be asking in the OruxMaps forum for limiting zoom level for one map in composite maps.
