I know that piste relations are missing in the map. What other tags are not there?
A lot, winter map style would mean more than alpine skiing:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:piste:type
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Winter_sports
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Piste_Maps
All of those tags would have to be analyzed and added to the maps. But the render machine is already at its limits, and there’s also a 15 tag per item limit for mapsforge maps. So we stay focused on what these maps are made for – cycling and hiking (there were wishes for water sports, horse riding or public transport map styles which were also denied).Developer of Elevate mapstyle

February 22, 2019 at 12:23 #27186AnonymousInactiveI see, thank you for your clarification.
I would start following Martin’s approach (i.e. adding a map style to the current version of Elevate), and then move on to a full fork.
Is there some documentation describing the process and tools you’re using? I’ll need to remove the data and rules I don’t need, and add what I need that is missing.
Are all the components of your project available and licensed under the CC-BY-SA? Do I need some written authorisation to get and modify them?
Thanks again!

There is no real documentation, the most important links are these:
https://github.com/mapsforge/mapsforge/blob/master/docs/Rendertheme.md
https://github.com/mapsforge/mapsforge/blob/master/resources/renderTheme.xsd
Every text editor which highlights XML is fine, like Notepad++ or PS Pad, the first one can also validate against the xsd.
For testing it makes sense to use Cruiser on the desktop.
Try google translate on this thread, here is the most important information gathered:

It’s CC-BY-NC-SA. If you want to modify and publish a theme based on Elevate, your theme has to use CC-BY-NC-SA as well, but you don’t need authorisation. I used symbols from other sources, all licenses can be found in the Elevate read_me or here:

February 24, 2019 at 20:55 #27217LothiParticipantHi
I like the elevate-winter very much. Is there a possibility to make the lines representing the lifts a little bit thicker? Can this be done by changing some parameters of the winter xml file?
Thanks a lot for all your really great job!
Hi Jean Marie, can we communicate in English?
That light pale blue colour superimposed to the slopes comes out from this rule:

that applies to pistes mapped as areas. The last FF in color code #5598F5FF means 100% alpha transparency, while 5598F5 is a light blue.To me would be better to render areas with the colour that corresponds to the piste difficulty–at least when the area has a difficulty tag, which is best practice by the way. That approach would be consistent with OpenSnowMap for instance.
I would apply Martin’s rules to a current Elevate style. But I’d merge the winter rules into the standard style, rather than having a fork. What do Tobias and other contributors think?
Hallo Solitone,

If this is your issue, as I wrote in a previous message, it is caused by a rule in the XML theme that renders pistes mapped as areas. Compare it with the red piste pointed out by the green arrow–in that case there is no piste area superimposed to the piste way, it is mapped as a simple piste way.
I’m attaching a new version of the elevate-winter theme, where I’ve commented out the section for that rule. The result is shown in the following picture:
Is this what are you looking for?

February 27, 2019 at 08:26 #27267LothiParticipantHi Solotone
I have modified the elevate-winter a little bit to show also the lifts and their names in a size which is well readable when skiing, see attached file. This shows the pists from zoom level 13 on so that you can get a fast overview on the piste plan.
I have still 2 problems, which I was not able to solve:
Their are some lifts (e.g. in Arraba Portavescovo see attached screenshot), where the lift name is only shown in zoom level 15, but not in 14.Their seem to be 2 types of piste names. One type is not shown in zoom level 14 (see screenshot, where piste 9 is not shown in all sections of the piste). This is the repeated number along the piste. How can this be shown in zoom level 14.
Hope you can help me
Regards

Hello Solitone,
I am French and I use a translator to write you.
You are the best!
Many thanks for your work, that’s exactly what I was looking for.
Now I use the same application (BikeComputer) with the same maps for cycling and skiing.
THANK YOUFebruary 27, 2019 at 17:53 #27279Jean-MarieParticipantHello Solitone,
The ski slopes appear from zoom 13.
Would it be possible to modify Elevate so that the ski slopes already appear from the zoom 10.
This makes it easier to find ski areas on a map.
Thank you in advance.
Jean MarieFebruary 27, 2019 at 20:46 #27283AnonymousInactiveHi Lothi, names are kind of magic, I also sometimes notice that strange things happen. I haven’t focused on names yet, so for the time being I fear I can’t help. When I study the theme more deeply I hope we can find a solution. Maybe somebody else can clear things up a bit.
BTW, your rendering of lifts is very nice!
February 27, 2019 at 20:58 #27285AnonymousInactiveHi Jean-Marie, good to know that I could help.
Regarding your next question on zoom levels, looking at the theme pistes should appear at zoom level = 9. Are you sure they appear at a higher zoom level instead?February 27, 2019 at 21:22 #27288Jean-MarieParticipantHello Solitone and Lothi,
Thanks to you the theme Winter is coming back.
And the result of your work is much better than the professional applications “Winter”
Thanks again
Jean MarieFebruary 27, 2019 at 21:44 #27290AnonymousInactiveCurrently I’m working on a rendering of piste areas like this.

Aren’t CC BY-NC-SA and GPL incompatible? Sorry if I ask, but I don’t have a clear idea regarding legal issues.
